Offices, hotels and garages
Downtown calls are mostly commercial: a suite door that will not lock, keys for a new tenant, a file cabinet in a law office, a lockout from a ground-floor shop. Building management often controls the main doors and the elevator, so a visit is easier when the manager or security desk knows to expect a locksmith.
Car lockouts in hotel and office garages are the other big group. Tell the dispatcher the garage entrance and level.
Why so many ZIP codes point here
The District has dozens of ZIP codes assigned to single federal agencies, large office buildings and post office boxes. Few people live in them, and their buildings have their own security staff, so separate pages would only repeat each other. Those ZIP codes are grouped here.
If you are inside a federal building, call your facility's security office first. Locksmith work on government property is normally arranged through the agency. Private offices and residents of Foggy Bottom, the West End and around George Washington University can call directly.
Booking a visit to an office building
Most downtown buildings ask contractors to sign in at the lobby and some want a certificate of insurance before work starts. Ask your property manager what they need and pass it to the dispatcher when you book. That avoids the technician waiting at the security desk.
For car lockouts in a commercial garage, tell the attendant that a locksmith is coming and ask whether there is a height limit or a gate code. Give the dispatcher the garage entrance street, the level and the space number if you know it.

Chart 03 · FAQ
Questions from Downtown & Penn Quarter
Can you work in a federal building?
Only when the agency arranges it. Call the facility's security office first; they decide who may work on their doors.
I have a P.O.-box ZIP. Which page applies?
This one. P.O.-box ZIPs have no street addresses, so calls are booked for the street address where you need help.
Do you need the building manager's approval?
For doors the building owns, yes. For your own suite or cabinet locks, check your lease.
Can you cut keys for a whole office?
Yes. Give the number of copies needed when you book. Restricted keys need the authorisation the key system requires.
Chart 04 · Callback
Request a callback
Leave a number and a short note. A dispatcher calls back to confirm the job, the address and the starting price before anyone is sent. For a lockout in progress, calling 202-753-3660 is quicker.
